The Board of Directors of the award-winning Legacy Project appreciates your interest in sponsoring a plaque on THE LEGACY WALKthe largest LGBTQ-focused Historic Landmark in the world. It is the only outdoor international museum walk celebrating the contributions Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people have made to history and culture. The Legacy Walk’s forty (40) bronze memorials feature people like Social Justice Pioneer Jane Addams; Architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Bayard Rustin; British Mathematician Alan Turing; renowned Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo; U.S. Poet Walt Whitman; Playwright Lorraine Hansberry; acclaimed author James Baldwin; astronaut Sally Ride; immortal Russian Composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky; and over 30 others.

Our Candidates for Induction currently include former U.S. Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins; renowned Anthropologist Margaret Mead; iconic Italian Artist Michelangelo; and nearly three-dozen others. These people hail from over 30 countries – have traveled every walk of life, represent more than 20 distinct fields of contribution, and cross all lines of race, gender, orientation, identification and class.  Our Candidates for Induction were painstakingly selected by an international team of LGBT historians and community leaders from our database to provide a balanced representation of our community.

Each $15,000 sponsorship includes a large bronze “Dedication Plate” to provide 24/7 recognition of our patrons on our Landmarked streetscape for a minimum of eight (8) years – plus a high-resolution image of the sponsored plaque and dedication plate on the Legacy Project’s website with a link to the sponsoring entity’s website that is visible to our world-wide acolytes.

As a 501(c)3 non-profit, contributions to the Legacy Project are fully tax deductable.  But unlike traditional giving, sponsorship of a plaque on the Legacy Walk provides our donors

with an unprecedented opportunity to publicly demonstrate their support for the LGBTQ community. As such, some who have sponsored have done so through their marketing departments instead of corporate giving or community affairs, whose funds may already be committed to worthwhile endeavors that do not offer the public visibility of plaque sponsorship.

The Legacy Walk’s historic figures are the centerpiece of the Legacy Project Education Initiative (LPEI) and of Illinois’s new LGBTQ-Inclusive Curriculum, co-written by the Legacy Project. Guided tours of the installation are combined with customized lesson plans, study guides, and multimedia – all to bring the contributions of historically significant LGBTQ role models directly to youth at risk for bullying and suicide. It is no wonder that several colleges and universities have included the Legacy Walk as part of their training for new pre-service teachers.

The Legacy Project has been internationally recognized for taking LGBTQ history to the street and tying it directly to LGBTQ youth service. Over fifty newspaper articles and/or television/radio features have highlighted the Legacy Walk, including CNN, NPR, NBC, CBS, WTTW, WBEZ, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, Windy City Times, The Advocate, the Huffington Post and countless blog-sites, academic journals, and tourism publications.
